The Software Sustainability Institute‘s (SSI) annual Collaborations Workshop is being held this year in Belfast (my hometown) on 31 March – 2 April.

The SSI is funded by all seven of the UK Research Councils to with a mission to lead the way in research software practice.

The Collaborations Workshop “brings together researchers, developers, innovators, managers, funders, publishers, leaders and educators to explore best practices and the future of research software.” I feel this description rather undersells the event. It’s an extremely welcoming, genuinely collaborative and, although organised and run by the SSI, is very much driven by the community it serves. I’ve been to the last two and have left both with new contacts and a better understanding of my place and role in the research software environment.

I’ll be heading back to Queen’s University Belfast for the first time since graduating 18 years ago to attend, and I strongly recommend it to anyone working with or around research software.
